Breast Cancer Research Foundation Recieves $28,000 From Mother's Day Promotion with The Bon-Ton York, PA, August 19, 2002 -The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), which is the first and largest national organization dedicated solely to funding clinical and genetic research at outstanding medical centers across the country, received a check for $28,000 from the sales of a custom-designed ribbon and heart rhinestone necklace sold exclusively at all Bon-Ton stores (NASDAQ: BONT) during a Mother's Day promotion, along with donations collected from its customers. On behalf of The Bon-Ton, Lynn Derry, Senior Vice President, General Merchandising Manager of Accessories, Intimate Apparel, Shoes and Cosmetics and Frank Tworecke, Vice Chairman and Chief Merchandising Officer presented the check to Evelyn H. Lauder, Founder and Chairman of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Aerin Lauder, Vice President Global Advertising, Estée Lauder, Inc. The Bon-Ton donated $2 from each sale of the rhinestone necklace and distributed BCRF bookmarks with a pink ribbon lapel pin to customers who made $5 donations.

"It brings great pleasure to our organization to help raise breast cancer awareness in our communities. We want to thank our customers who purchased our exclusive ribbon and heart necklace because they are a large part of this fundraising effort," said Frank Tworecke, The Bon-Ton Vice Chairman and Chief Merchandising Officer. "Because of their generosity, our Mother's Day promotion was successful in raising awareness, as well as helping to fund the research to find a cure for this devastating disease."

The Bon-Ton will further its commitment to the BCRF by hosting a "Think Pink" event October 2 through November 2, 2002 during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in which the store will offer customers the opportunity to contribute to the fight against breast cancer.
